Jeffrey H. Dean

From an early age, he has been inspired by beautiful and innovative things. Jeff also always been adept at working with my hands. They said he was good with scissors in kindergarten. For him, beauty, whether in nature or from the hand of man, is crucial to our existence. We thrive on harmony. It’s what captivates us as we look at great works of art. So there’s my challenge; to distill and convey what inspires me in a clear and harmonious way. That’s where the 99% perspiration begins as the process of making a work of art usually consists of repeated trial, error and refinement until all the elements flow and speak clearly, no longer attracting my attention.

As his work, whether modeling in clay or wax, carving in wood or stone, engraving steel or assembling various materials, he repeatedly guided by feelings that inspired by what he see and what he can touch by hand. Jeff innate intention as an artist is to convey the essence of my subject while being true to my chosen material. He is constantly working to clarify the forms and refine the designs in order to convey the feelings as it moved by.

Some of Jeff's work is inspired by the people, animals and things he finds around him; fleeting moments, glimpsed in passing. Inspiration also comes from found objects and compositions. Jeff get new ideas from the forms and character of naturally weathered pieces of wood and stone, the gestures of pinched and twisted pieces of clay or wax, textures, patterns, and chance arrangements of objects on the ground or beach. All can lead to new compositions. New techniques, tools or methods of work are all developed in response to the needs of the current project or the unique setting for a new commission.

Art for him is a natural extension of living. When Jeff make something, all his creative resources come to bear. One of the things he loves is the challenge of solving a problem or making something that others will enjoy and live with. It puts me in touch with my deeper feelings and is a means for interpreting, distilling, and conveying, both visually and tactilely, that which cannot be seen or may otherwise be taken for granted.

As an artist, he can’t help but get excited when presented with a new commission setting. Combinations of materials, techniques and subject matter all begin to take form in my mind. This begins with a general feeling of what would go well in the space and continues to develop through interaction with my client, contemplation, design work,  and the odd flash of inspiration.

One of my favorite things about making custom artwork for people is that the ideas and dreams you have for your home or business come together synergistically with my experience and sensibility as an artist. This results in something totally new; something neither of us could have imagined on our own.

Photo Challenge Day 30

This challenge is designed to boost my creativity. The goal of the challenge is to take a photograph very day for the next 30 days.  Part of this challenge is to post the photograph of that day.

This has to be one of my favorite images. I found this monument with dog tags. When you looked at the reflection on the shiny surface of the dog tags, you can see the America flag flapping in the wind.  What makes this a powerful image is the representation of the dog tag along with the flag. It give the viewer a feeling of "Never Forget", remember the one who gave their lives.  That is what draws me the this image. I hope enjoy the last image in my 30 day challenge as much as I do.

Photo Challenge Day 26 and 27

This challenge is designed to boost my creativity. The goal of the challenge is to take a photograph very day for the next 30 days.  Part of this challenge is to post the photograph of that day.

I was not able to post am image yesterday. So it came to me that I would post two images to make up for the day I missed. and this would help me get back on track.

The image on the left I was liked the idea that you could barely see the structure. I like the viewer is playing a game of hide-and-seek.  This structure peeks over the plants as to say "Here I Am".

The image on the bottom is an image that I wanted to create an image that have a extreme angle and a sense of vertigo. I feel I accomplished this with this image.

I hope you enjoy these images.

Hope you enjoy this image as much as I do.

Photo Challenge Day 24

This challenge is designed to boost my creativity. The goal of the challenge is to take a photograph very day for the next 30 days.  Part of this challenge is to post the photograph of that day.

Here a new coffee print I took in the Shawnee park in the Kansas City area.  I developed the film for 25 mins in coffee. One of things I was focus on was the angle. I feel there something to say about an image that is contains angle. It creates a dynamic appearance to the photograph.

I hope you enjoy the image.
